Description

The position serves as a Special Assistant in the Preservation Directorate, Discovery and Preservation Services, Library Collections and Services Group reporting to the Director for Preservation.
The Special Assistant provides technical, operational, administrative and program guidance in support of the Directorate’s responsibilities for fulfilling the mission of the Preservation Directorate within LCSG. Additionally, the incumbent assists other Directorates and Service Units throughout the Library as required with collaborative projects and activities. The incumbent provides guidance and support in the form of program and project plans, reports, analytic studies, communications, correspondence, and memoranda on a wide range of complex matters to fulfill program goals and operational requirements. In performing the duties of the position, the Special Assistant exercises judgment, strong communication and analytical skills, effective collaboration, and an in-depth understanding and familiarity with Directorate and Library operations.
The Special Assistant provides administrative and operational support in the day-to-day and the long-term management of the Directorate to meet the mission and program goals. The incumbent provides program support to the Director who is responsible for a range of activities and programs and regularly interacts with other Library of Congress units and with national and international organizations, high-level officials from other government agencies, professional organizations, scholarly, and cultural communities.
The incumbent serves as the primary liaison between the Director, their management team and staff throughout LCSG, and initiates, establishes, and maintains professional relationships with all staff to share resources and information.
The incumbent serves as a point of contact for administrative professionals and directorate managers on personnel and operational initiatives, goals and processes, and regularly consults with LCSG operational staff on high-level budgetary and personnel policies and objectives. The special assistant ensures effective and timely communications with administrative and/or directorate staff, and that reporting requirements are met.
The incumbent coordinates requirements and serves as an expert on special projects, advising the directorate management team on significant operational initiatives, goals and process updates. The incumbent may lead, conduct and/or participate in management studies and reviews, particularly those with wide or significant effect on the Directorate and Service Unit operations, and those where the boundaries of the studies may be broad with far-reaching or long-term implications. The incumbent also organizes assigned projects and collaborates on cross-divisional team projects.
