Description

CLIR is seeking an experienced and innovative leader to serve as Senior Program Officer for the Digital Library Federation (DLF). DLF’s mission is to advance research, learning, social justice, and the public good through the creative design and wise application of digital library technologies. This key role will be responsible for advancing DLF’s mission by fostering collaboration, promoting digital libraries, and developing and maintaining strategic partnerships.

High-Level Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and vision setting for DLF, ensuring alignment with organizational goals
  • Foster and support the efforts of the DLF community, including DLF’s Working Groups, providing resources where possible to perform and amplify their work
  • Communicate the value of DLF through regular communication, presentations, publications, and conference presentations
  • Direct the development and implementation of DLF program initiatives
  • Oversee the planning and execution of DLF events
  • Serve as an advocate for the role digital libraries can play in research, learning, social justice, and the public good
  • Work with CLIR’s development and outreach staff to ensure the program maintains adequate funding through memberships, grants, etc.

Key Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong experience with digital libraries
  • Excellent communication skills, leadership, and project management skills
  • Ability to build and maintain strategic partnerships
  • Ability to effectively communicate large, complex ideas to a variety of audiences and stakeholders
  • Proven ability to plan and execute large-scale events like the annual DLF Forum meeting, including budgeting, logistics, and coordination with vendors and stakeholders
  • Preference for experience with in grant writing, fundraising, and/or donor relations

Specific Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Provide strategic direction and vision for DLF in alignment with CLIR’s mission
  • Foster collaboration among DLF members, partners, and stakeholders to advance the field of digital libraries
  • Develop and implement plans to achieve DLF goals and objectives

Community Engagement

  • Foster a sense of community among DLF members through inclusion in projects and DLF Groups, online forums, social media, and in-person events
  • Build and maintain relationships with DLF members, partners, and stakeholders to promote engagement and participation in DLF activities
  • Encourage and support the contributions of DLF members to the field of digital libraries
  • Anticipate and address the needs of member institutions and consult with the membership on relevant issues of importance to the community
  • Liaise and engage with CLIR Affiliates, particularly those whose missions and audiences overlap extensively with the wider DLF community
  • Serve as a liaison between the DLF and other organizations, such as libraries, archives, museums, associations, and technology companies

Program Management

  • Oversee the development and implementation of projects, services, and events that support the DLF community
  • Manage staff, budgets, and resources for program initiatives
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of projects and initiatives and make recommendations for improvement
  • Prepare regular reports for the CLIR President and Board on the DLF program’s achievements, challenges, and opportunities

Event Planning

  • Oversee large-scale events, such as the annual DLF Forum meeting, including monitoring budgets and supervising staff and contractors responsible for logistics
  • Develop and implement marketing plans to promote events and attract attendees
  • Ensure that events are accessible and inclusive for all participants

Communications and Outreach

  • Develop and implement communication strategies to engage with DLF members, partners, and stakeholders
  • Write and edit content for publications, social media, and other channels
  • Represent CLIR and DLF at conferences, meetings, and other events

Fundraising and Development

Note: the below will not be solely the responsibility of the DLF Senior Program Officer. The person in this position will collaborate extensively with CLIR’s development staff and senior management on these activities.

  • Identify and pursue funding opportunities to support CLIR/DLF projects and initiatives
  • Help lead DLF membership and donor relations, including cultivating new and existing relationships, soliciting support, and regularly communicating benefits of the DLF to the community
  • Develop and implement fundraising strategies for CLIR and DLF

Working Environment

This is a fully remote, salaried position, with a standard four-day (Monday-Thursday) workweek. CLIR offers its employees a full benefits package, including:
