Description

The University of Virginia (UVA) Library is seeking a collaborative and highly motivated professional to manage and support the institution’s open-access repository in the role of Scholarly Repository Librarian. Institutional repositories play a vital role in the open research infrastructure, facilitating the transparent and accessible dissemination of research outputs to a global audience. Reporting to the Director of Copyright & Scholarly Communication Services within the Scholarly Resources and Content Strategy (SRCS) division, the Scholarly Repository Librarian will provide service development and evaluation, user support, and strategic leadership for LIBRA, UVA’s open-access repository for journal articles, electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs), and scholarly data. The individual in this role will work directly with undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff to identify effective strategies for preserving and increasing access to UVA research outputs while ensuring alignment with open-access principles and compliance requirements. The Scholarly Repository Librarian will work closely with Library IT and key stakeholders to develop and implement repository enhancements, monitor system upgrades, and explore emerging technologies to improve platform functionality.

As the primary point of contact for LIBRA, this position is pivotal in maintaining and advancing UVA Library’s institutional repository services. Core responsibilities include leveraging expertise to enhance access to scholarly research, identifying innovative approaches to expand repository usage and engagement, and recommending improvements to the repository’s structure and features. The librarian will provide direct user support for open-access initiatives, university-wide ORCID adoption, ETDs, and data repositories, collaborate with technical teams, and represent UVA Library in regional and national repository networks.
