Amherst College invites applications for the position of Research & Instruction Librarian. Amherst College (http://www.amherst.edu) is one of the most diverse liberal-arts colleges in the country. Within the last decade, Amherst College has profoundly transformed its student body in terms of socioeconomic status, ethnicity, race, sexuality and gender identity, and nationality. Today, nearly one-quarter of Amherst's students are Pell grant recipients; 45 percent of our students identify as domestic students of color; and 10 percent of our students are international students.
As part of a collaborative and dynamic team, the Research & Instruction Librarian teaches in the library's program of course-integrated research instruction; builds relationships with faculty, students, and staff to support their information needs; serves as subject librarian for several departments (likely to include History, Black Studies, and others), acting as research instructor, liaison, and selector; and provides general research help and guides library users in identifying, accessing, and evaluating information in all formats. We're looking for someone with a commitment to undergraduate education; a strong record of rapport and collaboration with faculty on assignments, course design, and pedagogical strategies; intellectual curiosity and familiarity with modes of historical inquiry, including approaches to integrating archival research; and a commitment to and demonstrated knowledge of diversity, inclusion, and equity issues as related to research instruction, collection development, and user-centered public service.
