Reporting to the Director of Digital Research Services and Collections, the SCDNP Project Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the South Carolina Digital Newspaper Project (SCDNP), a two year grant funded project by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). The manager will work closely with the advisory board, the Library of Congress (LC), the South Carolina Department of Archives and History, the vendor, the co-PIs on the grant, and two part-time Metadata Assistants. Responsibilities of the position will include reviewing microfilm for quality control with staff in the South Caroliniana Library, creating metadata, managing the trafficking of microfilm and hard drives to and from the University of South Carolina, the partners, the vendor, and LC. The Project Manager will also be reviewing the digital files, maintaining the project’s metadata database and ensuring that the vendor has all the current information it needs throughout the project. This person will attend two annual program meetings in Washington, DC and assist in writing project reports as required by the NEH. The Project Manager will also help locate and scan missing newspaper pages and send the individual images to the vendor. The funding for this position will start September 1, 2022 and will end June 30, 2024.
