Job Description Summary
Reporting to the Head of Manuscripts and Archives Processing in the Special Collections Processing Center at the Kislak Center, the processing archivist will arrange and describe analog, digital, and hybrid archival collections, create EAD finding aids using ArchivesSpace in order to provide access to collections, and will contribute posts to the Kislak Center blog and other social media. The processing archivists' focus will be on large and/or complicated collections held by the University Archives, Kislak Center, and the Katz Center that require significant archival experience and skill. The processing archivist will work with fellow archivists within the Penn Libraries and across campus to improve workflows, policies and practices in an effort to respond to and anticipate the evolving needs of the archival profession and the Penn Libraries' vision of responsibly and ethically promoting access to collections.

Responsibilities and Duties:
-Physically process analog and hybrid archival collections, arranging the material and rehousing for permanent archival storage.
-Forensically process born-digital archival collections, ensuring data integrity and permanent archival storage.
-Describe archival collections, creating EAD finding aids via ArchivesSpace.
-Work with Special Collections Processing Center, University Archives, and Katz Center staff to improve workflows, policies, and best practices and develop methodologies to reduce backlog and/or enhance accessibility.
-Write blog posts & participate in activities or events for the Kislak Center, University Archives, and Katz Center in order to promote collections and raise awareness to Penn faculty and students and the wider research community.
Perform duties as assigned.
-An accredited master's degree in library and information science, with a concentration in archives
-A minimum of 3-5 years' experience processing analog archival collections and a strong command of archival theory and best practices
-Demonstrated experience working with large archival collections
-Experience using ArchivesSpace, Archivists Toolkit or Archon
-Expert knowledge of DACS, EAD, and XML
-The ability to work both independently and with others in a collaborative work environment
-Demonstrated ability to manage time and complete projects efficiently and effectively
-Fluency with Microsoft Office software, in particular Excel
-Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
-Willingness to promote collection material through social media and events
-A commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
-Experience processing electronic and born-digital archives
-Knowledge of MARC and Alma (Penn's integrated library system)
-Evidence of high level of initiative and self-motivation
