Reporting to the Director, Software Engineering in Library IT, the Principal Full-Stack Engineer plans, develops, tests, and documents computer programs, applying advanced knowledge of programming techniques and computer systems. The position will provide programming expertise in support of a variety of library systems, including both vendor products (e.g., Atlas Systems’ Aeon, ILLiad, and Ares) and custom software. The focus of the position is development using Microsoft technologies (C#, SQL Server, Azure).
The Principal Full-Stack Engineer performs advanced level system analysis, definition and design activities of a complex nature. This involves collaboration closely with other units within Library IT and with stakeholders across the library to provide suitable business applications for the end users. The incumbent will be expected to evaluate user requests for new or modified programs to determine feasibility, cost and time required, and compatibility with current systems. The incumbent is expected to lead the software development component of significant projects from the requirements gathering phase through to completion. The Principal Full-Stack Engineer guides the technical work of other team members through discussion of application architecture as well as relevant coding and technical standards.
