The Cornell Data Science curriculum initiative seeks to develop courses that will expand our ability to use computing and quantitative methods to expand our ability to engage with culture and the past. We seek a Postdoctoral Associate who will shape the interaction between Data Science and the Humanities through an integrated combination of original research, curriculum development, and coordination of undergraduate research. The primary duty will be to design and teach a new course targeted towards humanities majors with no programming or data science background. Students taking this course will be prepared to assist faculty in research incorporating quantitative methods in the humanities. They will collaborate with David Mimno, other faculty in the social sciences and humanities, and the Digital Humanities group in the Cornell University Library.
Applications are welcome from recent Ph.D. graduates with a range of disciplinary backgrounds (e.g., both humanities fields as well as computer and information science). An interest in and ability to do translational, cross-disciplinary work between fields is crucial. Significant experience with classroom teaching and guiding undergraduate research will be valuable. This is a two-year position.
