Job Summary: 

The Library (https://www.library.gatech.edu/) at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia invites applications for an innovative librarian will lead and support Library initiatives to preserve and sustain long-term access to Georgia Tech scholarship and research outputs in digital form, furthering the Library's mission to define excellence in the preservation, curation, and stewardship of the Institute's unique digital assets. This position reports to the Head of the Archives, records Management, and Digital Curation Department. The Librarian will participate in library-wide committees, activities, and working groups, and in meetings, workshops and trainings, for continued professional development, to remain informed and engaged with relevant current trends. 

This is a 12-month non-tenure track faculty position with an effort distribution of 80% librarianship, 10% scholarship and creative endeavors, and 10% professional service to the library profession. Up to two (2) years credit for previous professional experience may be given at the time of employment, in which case such credit will be stated in the offer letter. This is not a remote position, but some teleworking hours are supported.

Responsibilities:  

Provide and improve library services and resources; enrich the research, learning, and scholarship of the Georgia Tech community through the following:

80% Librarian Work  

  • Leads the Open Scholarship Repository Service;  
  • Implements strategies, policies, and procedures for preserving, describing, and delivering Institute scholarship and research outputs in digital form, based on professional good practice and collaboration with colleagues;  
  • Co-leads the Georgia Tech Digital Repository with Digital Curation Archivist and works with vendors and local IT to design technology product workflows;  
  • Serves as Product Owner for key digital curation systems and tools (DSpace, OSF for Institutions, ORCID, and DataCite) supporting the Open Scholarship Repository Service;  
  • Consults with the Head of Archives, Records Management, and Digital Curation and Digital Curation Archivist concerning digital collections, systems, and other related matters; and  
  • Supervises student workers and/or interns.   

 

10% Scholarship and Creative Endeavors 

  • According to expectations for library faculty members, contribute professionally through research, scholarship, and creative activities.  

  10% Service to the Library, Institute and Archival Profession 

  • Foster positive relations with faculty, students, and staff and promote the Institute and Library;  
  • Serve on library and university committees as assigned; and  
  • Contribute to the profession through service to professional organizations at the local, state, regional, and national levels, as appropriate. 

 

Required Qualifications

Librarian II  

  • Appropriate terminal degree, typically an American Library Association (ALA) - accredited Masters degree, a degree in a subject related to archival work, and/or in the appropriate area of specialization.  
  • Evidence of scholarship and/or evidence of service to the librarian/archivist profession. 
  • 5 years of professional experience.   

Librarian III  

  • Appropriate terminal degree, typically an American Library Association (ALA) - accredited Masters degree, a degree in a subject related to archival work, and/or in the appropriate area of specialization.  
  • A strong record of scholarship and service demonstrating significant contributions to the librarian/archivist profession. 
  • 10 years professional experience. 

Librarian IV  

  • Appropriate terminal degree, typically an American Library Association (ALA) - accredited Masters degree, a degree in a subject related to archival work, and/or in the appropriate area of specialization.  
  • A strong record of scholarship and service demonstrating the highest standards of professional contributions to the librarian/archivist profession and are recognized widely by peers. 
  • 15 years of professional experience. 

 

Preferred Qualifications  

  • 5 years experience utilizing DSpace for describing, preserving, and providing long-term access to digital materials;  
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the DSpace 7 entity model;  
  • Five years experience working closely with researchers to identify and recruit scholarly publications and other locally created research outputs for preservation and long-term access   
  • 5 years experience coordinating Dublin Core, METS, PREMIS, or other related repository metadata strategy;  
  • 5 years experience utilizing persistent identifier schemas such as ORCID, DOI, or other related schemas;  
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current national data content and structure standards related to the curation of digital materials; 
  • 2 years experience with supervising interns or student assistants;  
  • 5 years of professional experience in academic libraries; and    
  • Student Success Criteria  
  • The ability to promote an inclusive and welcoming educational and work environment  
  • The ability to engage in high-impact practices that support deep learning for student success

Proposed Salary  

 This is a benefits-eligible position with a range of $73,486-$105,662 commensurate with education and experience.
