Avery Architectural & Fine Arts Library seeks applications for a Library Assistant IV. The incumbent will be responsible for the following tasks.
-Processes electronic document delivery (Scan and Deliver) requests for eligible Columbia affiliates including checking citations, pulling books and journals from stacks, scanning materials, and consulting with professional staff.
-Processes interlibrary loan lending (ILL) and RapidX requests including checking citations, pulling books from stacks, consulting with bibliographic staff, and scanning materials for copy requests when necessary.
-Responsible for operations at Avery Service/Reserve Desk at regularly assigned times. Performs all duties of said Desk including but not limited to: in-house CLIO circulation of Avery and Fine Arts materials, from both on-site and ReCAP; CLIO circulation, circulating off-site books from both CU libraries and ReCAP partners, Borrow Direct books, and holds and recalls from other CU libraries; circulation of reserve books and periodicals (combination manual and Voyager Circulation); and processing holds and recalls. Handles patron policy, directional, and informational inquiries in-person, on the phone, and via email. Closes library on specified evenings, including sweeping for patrons, turning off all applicable lights and appliances, and locking secured areas.
-Performs and reviews stack maintenance routines, including but not limited to: sorting, arranging, pick-ups, shelving, shelf-reading, straightening and shifting in Avery Library. Monitors and reports on stacks conditions to Access Supervisor on a daily basis. Conducts various stack condition surveys as directed.
-Assists Reserves operations in tasks including but not limited to: verifying citations, searching CLIO and the card catalog, pulling materials from stacks, linking electronic materials to reserve lists, and de-processing items from reserves.
-Assigns, revises, and trains General Assistants in tasks listed above.
-Performs complex missing book searches, processes lists such as lost/missing action lists, and processes withdrawals.
-Processes incoming offsite requests.
-Maintains statistics for above activities.
-Assists in general library duties as required.
Semester: Tues-Thur. 3:00-11:00PM; Fri. 1:00-9:00PM; Sat. 11:00AM-7:00PM
Summer: Tues-Thur. 1:00-9:00PM; Fri. 9:00AM-5:00PM; Sat 12:00N-6:00PM
Intersession: Mon-Fri. 9:00AM-5:00PM
Position is solely responsible for closing the library on Friday and Saturday evenings.
Schedule subject to change as needed.
-High School Diploma or equivalent.
-Ability to work with computers necessary.
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary.
-Some heavy lifting required (20-40lbs.) as Avery Library has larger and heavier books and periodicals than most other Libraries. Must be able to perform some repetitive physical tasks such as book shifting.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Library experience preferred.
