The Science, Engineering, and Social Sciences Libraries seeks a Library Assistant to handle processing materials for Business & Economics course reserves services; providing access and information services; catalog maintenance; performing stacks maintenance duties; ARTing students assistants; staffing circulation desk; opening Watson Library on Sunday-Thursday mornings; and performing other duties assigned by supervisors.


Access Services:

Responsible for access services in Watson Library and in other SESSL locations, as needed. Opens Watson Library on Sunday-Thursday mornings and performs access services responsibilities, including… staffing our service desk when required, explaining policies and procedures, negotiating and resolving patron service problems, maintaining a consistent level of service and productivity, and assuring that ongoing library functions and tasks are maintained according to pre-determined standards.

Course Reserve:
Responsible for processing materials for Business & Economics course reserves services, including but not limited to… searching for requested books, ordering books, preparing books & items for reserves, linking materials for e-reserves, creating items records in our ILS, and communicating with faculty, librarians, and students concerning the status of reserve materials.

Delivery Services:
Responsible for processing incoming ILL, scan & deliver, Borrow Direct, and Offsite requests.

Catalog Maintenance:
Responsible for collections related duties, including… withdrawing/reinstating items and communicating with our central technical services department regarding catalog maintenance; assisting our library selector(s) with selecting new titles for acquisition and canceling subscriptions for existing titles in our collection; performing stacks maintenance duties; and ARTing student assistants who assist with access services and stacks maintenance tasks.

Technical Assistance:
Responsible for providing front line technology assistance to users, including… assisting patrons with printing & scanning equipment, becoming familiar with computer equipment in use in division libraries, having a general awareness of various software on the public machines, and reporting any hardware/software problems to LIT and supervisory staff.

Performing related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested by supervisors.


Sunday 9:45am – 5:45pm
Monday-Thursday 7:45am - 3:45pm
(Hours may vary during exam periods and intersession)

Minimum Qualifications

-High school diploma or equivalent.

-Computer experience required.

-Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication (oral and written) skills required

-Basic office automation and computer skills required.

Preferred Qualifications

-Bachelor’s degree preferred.
-Experience working in a library preferred.
-Experience working in customer service preferred.
