You’ll never be bored in this position!
Working with a dedicated staff, you’ll coordinate outreach to employees of the State of Alaska. You’ll manage a small collection of licensed electronic resources and services geared primarily toward these employees, providing access to information they need as efficiently, inexpensively, and smoothly as possible. And you’ll oversee the Richard Foster Reading Room, a beautiful and spacious area open to the public, ensuring a comfortable, well-functioning space where staff provide outstanding service. As the Alaska Division of Libraries, Archives and Museums, we promote lifelong learning for Alaskans through Alaska’s diverse history, art, and culture, while this section serves as the primary research library for state government. The Working Environment You Can Expect
The Alaska State Library is located in the state capital of Juneau, an extraordinarily beautiful location in Southeast Alaska, with a small-town feel but big-city arts and culture just steps away from amazing hikes, skiing, diving and other outdoor activities. The Alaska State Library is located in the Andrew P. Kashevaroff Building, a modern building in a prime downtown location, with high-quality environmental controls and plenty of room for social distance.
Our ideal candidate will possess some or all of the following knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience:
- Experience negotiating with vendors, such as experience negotiating license agreements.
- A history of demonstrating exceptional customer service in person and via phone and email.
- Knowledge and experience in marketing and outreach, including user research, iterative planning, and implementation.
- Demonstrated ability to work with and serve people from varied backgrounds and different situations with compassion, friendliness, courtesy, and tact.
Master's degree from an accredited college in library or information science, media services, or a closely related field;
Two years of journey-level professional librarian experience. This experience is met by service as a Librarian 1 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent with another employer.
