The NC State University Libraries invites applications and nominations for the position of Experiential Learning Services Librarian in the Learning Spaces & Services (LSS) department. The LSS department (9 librarians, 7 support staff), part of the Student Success division, provides dynamic services, spaces, and technologies to enable all forms of learning, discovery, and research. Through its workshops, programs, and activities, students and faculty in all disciplines can explore and apply tools and systems for advanced visualization, 3D modeling, virtual environments, and digital media creation in their research and study. The department leads a range of programs and initiatives that support student learning, access to essential tools and resources, and undergraduate student success. Department staff contribute to the ongoing evolution of the Libraries’ Technology Lending Service. The department has overall responsibility for learning spaces including the Makerspace, Virtual Reality Studio, Learning Commons, Innovation Studio, and the Digital Media Studios plus several additional teaching labs. LSS also works with the Research Engagement department to provide support in other technology-rich spaces including the Visualization Studio at the Hill Library and the Teaching and Visualization Lab at the Hunt Library.
The Experiential Learning Services Librarian leads creative development projects that enable compelling user experiences in learning spaces, academic courses, faculty research, library events, and more. The position facilitates the use of immersive technologies in the Virtual Reality Studio, Innovation Studio, and other spaces that extend access and agency to a broad set of users. They help to assess and conduct research on emerging technologies to find strategic ways to meet new user needs and provide better access to these tools. The incumbent collaborates with colleagues in LSS along with other Libraries departments to build new processes, partnerships, and connections between experiential learning spaces, instruction, and high-technology spaces. They work with student groups and other library partners including DELTA and the NC Plant Sciences and Integrative Sciences initiatives. The position manages student interns and staff that contribute to technology projects such as the undergraduate Susan Allen Everett Internship. The position provides public service at service points at the Hill and Hunt Libraries. The position deeply considers how their approach to their daily work reflects and advances the Libraries’ Strategic Plan, creating an environment and community that is welcoming for both patrons and colleagues alike. They participate in library planning and serve on library-wide committees, task forces, and teams. Librarians are expected to be active professionally and to contribute to developments in the field.
