Description

The UO Law Library seeks a collaborative, communicative, and adaptable individual to coordinate the day-to-day operations of our Access Services department. This position is the primary contact for all public service-related issues that occur during and affect evening and weekend operations at the Law Library. This position is responsible for understanding and interpreting a complex set of internal and external laws, rules, regulations, and policies (both internal and external) as they relate to the library collection.

This position is responsible for maintaining facilities and collections, and for stacks maintenance, including monitoring space needs, and recommending and planning large-scale moves. The individual in this position also participates in the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) processing operation at the circulation desk. This position coordinates the core of law reference, circulation, and ILL which stems from the specialized needs of the legal education program and its professional students. This position responds to patron inquiries about information services and resources and makes appropriate referrals. They must often explain and interpret policies and procedures and make independent decisions on how to best serve a patron’s needs. Using multiple databases, they edit various records and perform non-routine search activity involving access to world-wide library collections.

The individual in this position reports and helps resolve problems relating to the building, systems and equipment; helps maintain the larger collection and oversees the processing of course reserves; and assists with hiring, training and oversight of student employees. Other various tasks include: maintaining departmental procedural manuals; adding documentation of practices and procedures; provide inventory control of stocked supplies for public areas and equipment; compiling and preparing reports and statistics.
