Job Description Summary
Part of the Acquisitions, Access and Licensing (AAL) Department within the Collections and Scholarly Communications division, and reporting to the Head, E-Resources and Licensing, the eResource Acquisitions & Licensing Librarian focuses on the responsible and efficient expenditure of the Libraries' $25 million budget for collections and participates in electronic resource lifecycle management and workflows, including acquisition, licensing, discovery, access, maintenance, and evaluation. The incumbent ensures continued access to and support for robust, distinctive, and innovative collecting, efficient and careful acquisition of increasingly digital resources, and effective engagement with colleagues across the Libraries and externally with consortia and vendors. Successful candidates will have excellent communication skills and bring a strong analytical and creative approach to interactions with data, people, and workflows. This position will be assigned a job profile of Librarian B or Librarian C commensurate with experience and professional accomplishments.
• Participate in the licensing, purchase, inventory entitlement, renewal and cancellation workflows and decisions with other AAL units, Library departments, and collection specialists. Work externally with vendors, publishers, consortia, and appropriate user communities
• Create, audit, and analyze data to support and inform collection development and budgetary decisions including financial data and usage statistics. Participate in the responsible stewardship of the collections budget
• Support accurate access to e-resources entitlements and holdings coverage; create and update access points, manage eresource collections, and local, shared and vendor knowledgebases. Maintain authentication protocols, specifically the proxy configuration files, for electronic resources
• Participate in the recommendation and implementation of innovative approaches to electronic resource management and discovery. Support configuration and integration of electronic resource access and services between the library's various online discovery platforms, including Ex Libris's Primo, and the library's resource management system (Alma)
• Support user access and discovery to e-resources; Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve access problems problem trends and exceptions concerning discovery and access issues related to licensed electronic resources. Participate in advance trouble shooting for patrons and staff. Partner with subject selectors and public services personnel to resolve technical issues affecting user services and identify strategies for enhancing electronic resources accessibility and findability
• In collaboration with other AAL librarians, secure favorable contract terms for eresources across a full spectrum of complexity and cost. Assure licenses meet local and national standards and principles. Organize, articulate, expose, track license information in internal systems
• Graduate degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association.
• Two to three years relevant professional library experience.
• Familiarity acquiring eresources, preferably within the context of an academic or research library.
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
• Commitment to diversity and understanding of the contributions a diverse workforce brings to the workplace.
• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills across varied contexts.
• Strong organizational, analytical, decision-making, problem-solving, and planning skills.
• Experience with various modules of an integrated library system as they relate to e-resources management and acquisitions, experience with Alma/Primo highly desired.
• Demonstrated experience managing and troubleshooting electronic resource collections.
• Experience providing access to or discovery of electronic resources in an academic or research library.
• Experience participating in license negotiation and workflows. Knowledge of national licensing trends and issues related to contract and license negotiation, interpretation, and review.
• Knowledge and understanding of industry-wide issues and practices related to e-resource access, discovery, licensing, acquisitions, use, and management.
