Description

The NC State University Libraries invites applications and nominations for the position of Digital Media Librarian. The Learning Spaces & Services (LSS) department (12 librarians, 6 support staff), part of the Student Success division, provides dynamic services, spaces, and technologies to enable all forms of learning, discovery, and research. The department leads a range of programs and initiatives that support student learning, access to essential tools and resources, and undergraduate student success. The department provides students’ first introduction to the Libraries through a variety of outreach and orientation events and supports in-person and digital instruction in first-year writing and speaking programs. LSS has overall responsibility for the Studios, a collection of learning spaces at the Hill and Hunt Libraries including the Makerspace, Virtual Reality Studio, iPearl Innovation Studio, Digital Media Studios, and the NC State Gaming and Esports Lab, along with the Learning Commons and several additional teaching labs. Through its workshops, programs, and activities, students and faculty in all disciplines can explore and apply tools and systems for prototyping and making, 3D modeling, and virtual environments, along with audio and video digital media creation. The department also supports the Ask Us service at the Hill and Hunt Libraries.

Responsibilities

The Digital Media Librarian has primary responsibility for the digital media program, including both spaces and services, in the James B. Hunt Jr. Library and the D. H. Hill Jr. Library. Services and support include audio and video production, live streaming, photography, and graphic design. The position engages with students and faculty and works to make the media production spaces both approachable for beginners and well-equipped for advanced users through the development of documentation, support infrastructure, and workshops for both users and staff. The incumbent supports student and faculty learning through consultations, workshops, course-based instruction, web-based tutorials, and other learning content. They collaborate in library outreach and student-focused events with campus and community partners. They supervise one full-time library specialist and indirectly supervise a team of part-time student assistants. The position reports to the Lead Librarian for Experiential Learning Services.

The position deeply considers how their approach to their daily work reflects and advances the Libraries’ Strategic Plan, creating an environment and community that is welcoming for both patrons and colleagues alike. The incumbent will have the opportunity to serve on Libraries-wide committees, task forces, and teams. Librarians are expected to be active professionally and to contribute to developments in the field.

This position is based in Raleigh, North Carolina, on the campus of NC State University. The Libraries supports flexible work arrangements and a hybrid work environment based on departmental and operational needs.

NC State promotes an integrated approach to problem solving that transforms lives and provides leadership for social, economic, and technological development across North Carolina and around the world. NC State’s land grant mission of teaching, research and service is dedicated to the service of North Carolina and its people. Applicants are encouraged to review the institution’s mission, vision and strategic plan, and consider how their background, interest and experience would enable them to support the university.
