The University of Michigan Library is seeking a skilled developer to help create and maintain large scale digital library systems. The successful candidate will work as part of a team of programmers, librarians, and designers on major initiatives. This position will be, for the foreseeable future, primarily focused on software development for HathiTrust.

HathiTrust is a global partnership of 170+ academic and research libraries based at the University of Michigan working to ensure that the cultural record is preserved and accessible long into the future. More than ten years after its founding, HathiTrust holds one of the largest set of digitized books managed by a non-profit organization, offering an unprecedented opportunity to steward the cultural record through increasingly connected work that develops capacity and sparks innovation.

Organizationally, this position resides in the University of Michigan Library Information Technology division, and reports to the Head of Digital Library Applications. The development effort for HathiTrust is highly collaborative, with priorities and implementation activities led by the HathiTrust Enterprise Architect. HathiTrust anticipates significant investments in the next three to five years to update, redevelop, or replace many of the applications, APIs, and systems comprising the HathiTrust Digital Library, and the core systems and processes of managing the repository. The person in this position will participate directly in these activities, as well as ongoing operation and maintenance.

The University of Michigan Library is one of the world's largest academic research libraries and serves a vibrant university community that is home to 19 schools and colleges, 100 top ten graduate programs, and annual research expenditures approaching $1.5 billion a year. To enable the university's worldchanging work and to serve the public good, the library collects, preserves, and shares the scholarly and cultural record in all existing and emerging forms, and leads the reinvention of the academic research library in the digital age.

The library is committed to recruiting and retaining a diverse workforce and encourages all employees to fully incorporate their diverse backgrounds, skills, and life experiences into their work. We champion diversity, equity, and inclusion. Our work engages a broad and diverse community with wide-ranging needs and concerns, and we empower all employees to actively participate in the ongoing process of learning about and responding to these needs. We value the synergy that results from sharing and leveraging our different experiences, backgrounds, skills, talents, and interests to build an environment in which all our community members can flourish.
