Provide support for multiple software and web packages across Smith College Libraries, with a particular emphasis on tools used by Special Collections for the management, distribution, and preservation of archival holdings. Build connections to internal and external applications, and use creativity and innovation to create new and exciting applications improving access and discovery of library resources. As a member of the extended Smith College IT community, work within established IT standards and practices overseen by the Information Technology Services group, participate in institutional IT planning groups and initiatives, and contribute to the development and management of cross-unit service teams. As part of the Five College community, this position communicates and collaborates on Five College projects that may be beneficial to other libraries and works with our partners on development needs for Smith College Libraries.

Major Application Development and Support: (40%)
Administer library applications across multiple environments and operating platforms, including: tools for web content management such as Drupal and Omeka, digital collection repositories such as Islandora and Digital Commons, archives information management such as ArchiveSpace, and other teaching and learning products including the Springshare suite. Develop integrations across management and distribution applications.
Internal System Support (35%)
Support the libraries website, including bug fixes, package updates and future development. Conduct maintenance, monitor performance and security, and update web, database, and ancillary services. Participate in iterative testing and integration of user feedback throughout the development process. Assist with UX analysis of library systems. Manage staff user accounts and access to library systems. Develop and implement procedures, workflows, and produce related documentation.
Work closely with staff across DADE, Special Collections, and Teaching, Learning & Research units to develop exciting solutions that help improve scholarship, discovery, and stewardship of library resources. Utilize a deep understanding of local systems, practices, and tools to consult on technical decisions, improve efficiencies, and move complex projects forward. Mentor and support Special Collections staff in the development of scripting and other technical skills. Contribute technical expertise to working groups at the Libraries, College, and Five College-level.

Minimum Qualifications (knowledge, skills, education, experience, certifications, licenses)
Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program with formal training in archival theory preferred; 3 years programming experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Prior work experience in academic libraries or archives. Experience using Apache Solr, Vagrant, Docker or containerized development/deployment strategies. Experience leading QA. Demonstrated experience with project management, familiarity with agile methodologies, and DevOps practices. Understanding of accessibility issues in the digital environment, including WCAG. Familiarity with Dublin Core, METS, and MODS. Experience providing technology teaching, training and/or consultation. Familiar with digital library metadata standards and formats including textual, still image, and audio/visual preferred.
Demonstrated ability to work flexibly, independently and collaboratively with colleagues and library users in a rapidly changing service environment. Ability to take initiative, solve problems and prioritize work effectively. Awareness of new technologies and trends and their applications for library services. Ability to effectively manage multiple and competing projects and priorities. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Anticipated hiring range is $53,284 - $67,937 with the actual offer based on finalist’s experience, among other factors.
