Description
UNLV University Libraries seeks applications for an innovative and collaborative tenure-track/tenured faculty member to serve as the Data Librarian. Reporting to the Head, Scholarly Communication and Data Services (SCADS), the Data Librarian will join a collaborative and dynamic team dedicated to supporting scholarly and creative efforts at UNLV with an emphasis on making works open when possible. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop a suite of programming, services, and resources on data management and data literacy to meet the needs of the UNLV community. They will provide consultations, instruction, and other coordinated programming to undergraduates, graduate students, faculty, and other UNLV researchers. We welcome early-career candidates and those looking to grow their knowledge related to the responsibilities of this position, particularly regarding data ethics and open data. Key responsibilities and expectations for this position will include:
- Facilitate and lead instructional programming related to research data management and data literacy, including the design, development, and delivery of instruction through multiple formats to meet stakeholder needs (e.g., in-person, hybrid, synchronous and asynchronous online).
- Advise researchers on recommended data management practices throughout the research lifecycle that align with FAIR and CARE data principles, with an emphasis on making data open when possible.
- Provide guidance to researchers in selecting appropriate data repositories to store and share their data.
- Work collaboratively with SCADS, Libraries colleagues, and campus partners to develop programming and provide guidance on fulfilling federal mandates with a specific focus on data management and open data standards and practices.
- Represent the Libraries in Data Curation Network activities.
- Stay up to date on trends, developments, technologies, tools, resources, and changes in the landscape of federal research data policies, data management, ethical collection and use of research data, and data literacy. Adapts activities and recommendations accordingly.
