Description

The Dartmouth Libraries is recruiting for a dynamic new position focused on critical artificial intelligence information literacies. We are searching for someone who will work with partners across the Libraries and Dartmouth to develop structured artificial intelligence literacy programming that helps students at all levels understand the fundamentals and possibilities of these new systems and methods, including the ethical, informational, and educational implications of machine learning technologies. Academic research libraries have long been - and must continue to be - trusted sources of referential information, but we must also help our communities understand the epistemic shift that comes with inferential and uncertain information sources. If this sounds like your kind of challenge, please read on and apply!

Our new team member will join a dynamic organization made up of 140 information professionals and a growing community helping to shape Dartmouth's responsible approach to artificial intelligence and machine learning. The Libraries' approach to the dramatic recent changes in the information landscape is aligned with Dartmouth’s developing strategy and true to our professional and organizational values. In addition to helping  students understand AI in the broader information landscape, we have teams focused on supporting  advanced researchers whose scholarship uses machine learning techniques, and evaluating  libraries-specific tools and workflows that might engage or respond to new AI-inflected systems.

This position, initially funded for three-years with the possibility of renewal, will situate evolving artificial intelligence tools alongside the information sources and systems we already teach and provide guidance on. It will help us:

  • collaborate across multiple library departments (including our teaching & learning program, our research and learning teams, our research facilitation department, and others) to develop a suite of critical artificial intelligence frameworks, modules, and materials
  • shape how we engage students through in-class sessions, consultations, and accessible resources
  • and work with campus partners (such as Dartmouth Center for the Advancement of Learning, Learning Design and Innovation, and key school and program leads) to shape Dartmouth's AI systems and curricular explorations

Bring your unique skills, grow them through professional development and engagement, and help us empower students by unlocking their individual potential.
