Job Summary:

  • The Editorial Services Coordinator provides leadership for highlighting the vibrant stories of the University of Texas at Arlington Libraries in print and digital outlets.
  • This includes the creation and management of press releases, news stories, social media content, internal and external e-newsletters, messages on behalf of senior leadership, and other marketing material content.
  • This position also collaborates with members of the marketing team to ensure accessibility of all content produced by the department, as well as provides guidance on accessibility and branding to colleagues in the Libraries.
  • Editorial Services Coordinator will be expected to provide measurable targets for growth on digital platforms and meet targets within a timeframe set by the Coordinator and Director of Marketing and Communications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Reflects the Libraries’ Guiding Principles in partnership and service

  • Provides direction and guidance for content storytelling, supporting the Libraries’ communication and marketing goals and strategies with relevant editorial content for a wide range of print and electronic communications, including staff and organization achievements, event promotion, and collaboration with internal and external partners. Elevates select stories and press releases to University Advancement.
  • In collaboration with other members of the marketing and communications team, works with Libraries clients to develop, write, and edit compelling content that promotes the Libraries in ways that successfully reach target audiences.
  • Plans and coordinates the master editorial schedule for the Libraries to ensure timely delivery of stories, press releases, website content, blog posts, e-newsletters, and social media content. Exercises excellent news judgement in the selection of editorial content. Cultivates story ideas from across campus and promotes collaboration.
  • Conducts quality control and manages editorial workflow; ensures adherence with University Editorial Guidelines. Maintains accuracy and factchecks all content. Manages external media requests.
  • Researches emerging trends in marketing content, shares best practices, facilitates critique among student employees in editorial services. Trains and supervises student assistants as needed.

  • Participate in committees and task forces within the Libraries, university, and the profession

  • Continuously assess and iterate programs to improve services and advance initiatives;
  • Demonstrate commitment to innovation and discovery in order to remain relevant in higher education and support others in doing so as well.

Performs other duties as assigned

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, public relations, communications, marketing or related field or equivalent experience, and two (2) years of print and electronic communications experience.
  • Direct experience writing and editing; social media experience.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in journalism, English, public relations, communications, marketing or related field, and three (3) of print and electronic communications experience with one (1) year of supervisory experience.
  • Previous experience in higher education or marketing field.
  • Advanced editing and writing skills.

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Multimedia skills, such as online publishing, social media, videography, design, etc.
  • MS Office Suite, specifically Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Knowledge of Windows Operating System and file management
