Brief Summary of Job Duties

This position reports to the Director of Collections Strategies and participates in the Collection Strategies Department’s efforts to create and sustain an environment of evidence-based collections and content acquisitions, management, and review.

The Analytics Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of  the assessment program of the Collection Strategies Department (CSD) comprised of highly collaborative and user-focused professionals that work closely with personnel in other Library departments, with campus faculty, staff, and students. The incumbent collects and analyses collections and content-related data, and implements effective workflows for analyzing, interpreting, and presenting collections and content-related data.

*Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training;
  • Excellent qualitative and quantitative analytical skills to develop, assess, and synthesize information from multiple sources;
  • Experience with or a keen interest to learn how to apply effective methodologies and tools to design and conduct assessment projects to improve library collections and content-related operations;
  • Ability to produce reports in a variety of formats for easy interpretation and use; ability to work with and manipulate large amounts of complex financial, usage, and other types of library collections and content-related data;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of at least one software tool for analyzing, drawing insight from, reporting, and/or visualizing data including tools such as SAS, Excel, OpenRefine, Tableau, or similar analytical and visualization software;
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills as demonstrated by the ability to articulate ideas, thoughts, and information in a logical manner and sequence to summarize complex issues clearly and succinctly;
  • Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships; and,
  • Self-motivated and able to work both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a team. Able to consistently meet deadlines.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Knowledge of library systems, bibliographic tools, and library acquisitions practices; and,
  • Master’s degree in related areas, e.g., data science, information science, computer science, or social science.

*Job Functions/Percentage of Time/Duties

Data Collection, Analysis, and Reporting, 70%

  • Gathers, analyses, and normalizes collections and content-related data and information from multiples sources to develop complex aggregated reports and data outputs.
  • Applies technical expertise to coordinate, refine, and evaluate data outputs from the library’s integrated system and internal sources, the University of California Digital Library, vendors’ platforms, and external stakeholders. Creates data reporting templates and tools, develops complex queries and reports, and implements effective workflows and practices for the management of collections-related data.
  • Analyzes and summarizes data and other information for purposes of reporting, visualization, and supporting decision-making that best aligns physical and electronic collections with the mission of the campus and university and that advances an open and sustainable scholarly communication system.
  • Participates in developing CSD’s evidence-based approaches and processes to analyze, acquire, assess, and evaluate library content and to achieve strategic objectives related to collection development and management operations.

Communication and Coordination, 20%

  • Communicates findings and relevant results via compelling written, oral, and formal presentations to appropriate audiences, and gathers feedback to iterate and improve data analysis outputs.
  • Coordinates the assessment program of the Collection Strategies Department; Collaborates with, provides guidance and support to local stakeholders on collections related-data gathering and analysis procedures needed to achieve strategic objectives related to collection development and management operations.

Documentation, 10%

  • Documents assessment methodologies for extracting and manipulating data, and prepares final reports for dissemination purposes.
