Description

Reporting to the Head of Research Services, the Scholarly Impact Librarian provides scholarly impact support to Ohio University researchers, helping them analyze and articulate their research impact using both traditional and alternative metrics, assisting with the promotion of their scholarly output, providing guidance on open access publishing models, and offering training and guidance for supported research tools.
Additionally, the Scholarly Impact Librarian will provide instruction, reference, and consultation services to faculty and students. The librarian will help build sustainable collections that support the University’s research and instructional needs in a team environment.
Ohio University is a designated Carnegie Research 1 (R1) institution, ranking among the nation’s elite research institutions. The Research Services department was established within University Libraries to support and empower our researchers by collaborating throughout the scholarly life cycle in areas including data management, open access scholarship, and impact assessment and promotion, among others.
Specifically, the Scholarly Impact Librarian will:
- Partner with faculty and campus units to understand and promote the University’s scholarly research impact using both traditional and alternative metrics.
- Provide consultation services, workshops, and guides to help researchers articulate their individual research impact.
- Manage the integration and promotion of ORCID and other scholarly identifier programs on campus.
- Collaborate with team members and researchers to promote open access publishing models and assist with solutions for hosting open research to the public, including through the OHIO Open Library.
- Work with department members, library colleagues, and other University units to develop services, programming, and digital learning resources to support student and faculty research initiatives, including providing training on library resources and scholarly tools.
- Collaborate with other librarians and library departments to build and maintain collections that support the curriculum and research needs.
- Contribute to providing instruction, reference, and consultation services to the students and faculty.
- Engage in regular professional development through research, publications, presentations, and participation in regional, national, and/or international professional organizations, contributing to the Libraries’ best practices and innovative services.
- Serve on Libraries committees, task forces, and other groups to help advance the Libraries’ strategic goals, and contribute to achieving assigned annual objectives and KPIs, demonstrating accountability for performance and results.
- Provides outreach and collaboration with the University community.
Additionally, the Scholarly Impact & Social Sciences Librarian must have:
- Demonstrated success working independently and in collaborative assignments.
- A willingness to engage with campus partners at all levels.
- Demonstrated excellence in both written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of bibliometrics, altmetrics, and/or scholarly identifiers for analyzing scholarly impact.
