Cornell University Library (CUL) is seeking applications for the Veterinary Curricular Engagement Librarian. Reporting to the Director of the Science and Agriculture Libraries and in consultation with the Head of Instruction and Research Initiatives, the Veterinary Curricular Engagement Librarian will have a unique opportunity to collaborate with the College of Veterinary Medicine to integrate information literacy competencies into the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and Master of Public Health curricula and assess the outcomes. Collaborating with the Science and Agriculture Instruction Team, the librarian will learn and stay abreast of emerging information literacy and pedagogy trends and develop various instructional materials and modules to support web-based, clinical, and traditional in-class learning for students, faculty, and staff. The librarian will provide reference and research support service to veterinary and public health communities, including in-depth consultations.

The Veterinary Curricular Engagement Librarian will build on and strengthen existing academic partnerships at the College of Veterinary Medicine. This may include planning and implementing educational events at the Flower-Sprecher Library. Creativity and relationship-building are essential components of this job!

The Veterinary Curricular Engagement Librarian will contribute to collection development needs via selection, evaluation, and fund management. As a core member of the Flower-Sprecher Library team, this individual will occasionally contribute to the front-line operation of library services, such as staffing the circulation desk and helping walk-in library users. As an active member of Cornell University Library and the library profession, this individual will participate in a work culture that aligns with our university core values. Successful candidates will have demonstrated learning or experiences in applying principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in instruction design and service development.

As a Research, Teaching, and Extension (RTE) faculty member, the Veterinary Curricula Engagement Librarian will engage in service, scholarship, and ongoing professional development to meet the requirements of promotion and reappointment at Cornell University Library.

Candidate Profile:

  • A master’s degree in library and/or information science from an ALA-accredited institution or an advanced degree in a relevant discipline. December 2024 graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • No more than three years of relevant professional experience.
  • A demonstrated interest in teaching and a demonstrated ability to continuously learn and apply new pedagogical skills, technologies, and methods
  • A commitment to fostering diversity, inclusion and belonging in the organization where you work and/or in the communities that you engage.
  • A strong service orientation and the ability to creatively meet students, instructors, administrators and the general public wherever they are in their learning process.
  • Evidence of excellent organizational and written/oral communication skills
  • An ability to effectively foster positive work relationships and to collaborate in a team environment, but also willing to work independently.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in STEM fields, such as Veterinary Medicine, Biomedical Sciences, Public Health, or other Physical or Life Sciences.
  • Some experience in building professional connection and community.
  • Some experience in collection development and fund management.
  • Knowledge of instructional design, teaching practices, or assessment principles that create effective, active and inclusive learning environments

This position is located in Ithaca, New York. The selected candidate will typically work on the Ithaca campus four days per week, with potential for entering into a flexible work arrangement to allow remote work one day per week. The university reserves the right to modify, suspend, revoke or terminate the hybrid work arrangement at any time.

The New York Convenience of employer guidelines require New York State individual tax reporting and withholdings for this position. Additional individual state income tax filings may also be required if working temporarily outside New York State.

We expect to fill this position at the academic rank of Assistant Librarian. The anticipated salary range is $66,000-$72,000 and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
