Description
The University of Virginia Library seeks a librarian knowledgeable in scholarly communication and open publishing and skilled in outreach for the role of Open Scholarship Librarian. Reporting to the Director, Digital Strategies and Scholarly Communication Services, the Open Scholarship Librarian is accountable for developing and implementing a comprehensive, proactive outreach program to University members on open scholarship services, including the institutional repository and Aperio publishing platform, and ensuring all services support the ability of University community members to meet federal grant and other open scholarship policies. Additionally, the Librarian seeks opportunities to expand the reach and use of Libra beyond traditional self-deposited content. This is a mid-career professional librarian job opportunity working as part of a team.
Duties:
- Develop open scholarship services to align with scholarly needs for research and dissemination.
- Develop and teach sessions on digital technologies supporting open publishing.
- Maintain awareness of University and local community events, initiatives, etc. with outputs appropriate for inclusion in Libra.
- Develop partnerships to enhance access to university-connected scholarship about the local community.
- Provide direct patron support for the institutional repository, and create and maintain aligned policies, guidelines and documentation.
- Consult with members of the University community to analyze individual scholarly identity, research impact, and other issues.
- Maintain knowledge of current scholarly communication and open policies, practices, and trends affecting scholars across disciplines.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Library Sciences from an ALA accredited program and minimum 4 years’ experience
OR
Bachelor’s degree and minimum 8 years’ experience - Minimum 4 years’ experience with an institutional repository, open scholarship services and/or teaching and instruction in an academic library setting
- Ability to communicate in writing to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, belonging, and anti-racism demonstrated through participation in educational sessions, creation of policies, or implementation of practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with planning and implementing outreach to established and emerging users.
- Experience with managing or implementing institutional repository services beyond self-deposit.
- Successful record of working cooperatively and independently as part of a team with clear goals and objectives.
- Demonstrated success with tangible outcomes while meeting deadlines and managing multiple priorities.
