Reporting to the Director of Content Management Services (CMS), the Electronic Resources Management (ERM) Librarian oversees the lifecycle of the library’s electronic resources, including licensing, acquisitions, access, administration, and support. The ERM Librarian collaborates with CMS, Collection Strategies, and others to advance current and emerging models for e-resources management. As the University of California implements a shared ILS over the next two years, and also re-architects its electronic resource discovery and requesting systems, the ERM Librarian will have the opportunity to contribute to creating the UC’s next generation of discovery to delivery platforms and user experience.
Maintains close working relationships with content providers, vendors, and campus and UC partners;
Reviews contracts and licenses for e-resources, working with UC legal staff and the UCSB Library as appropriate;
Manages adding or removing electronic resources through ILS (Alma), discovery (Primo, web), and proxy (EZproxy) platforms and knowledge bases (SFX, Primo);
Ensures seamless and accurate access to locally-subscribed electronic resources by troubleshooting reported problems;
Provides guidance to public services staff and librarians on how to analyze and resolve common issues with electronic resource access;
Communicates with public services staff regarding known database issues;
In coordination with library and campus IT, the California Digital Library (CDL), vendors, and library users, ensures adherence to license terms;
Serves as liaison to CDL, the UC Shared Content Licensing Group, and the Shared Cataloging Program (SCP), to coordinate system-wide and local e-resource licensing, metadata, and discovery; participates in UC system-wide discussions, working groups, and task forces related to electronic resource management in the University of California; and
Identifies emerging trends and technologies in e-resource management that have the potential for new and improved library service, as for example Open Educational Resources (OER).
At time of application, ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library or Information Science.
Excellent written communication skills as evidenced by submitted materials including the CV, Cover Letter, and an optional but encouraged statement of diversity.
Excellent oral, and interpersonal communication skills;
Two years’ professional library experience in electronic resource management;
Experience working with vendors and publishers, particularly negotiating licenses;
Demonstrated understanding of concepts and issues related to the e-resources lifecycle;
Demonstrated familiarity with electronic resources licensing and legal framework and concepts, and a practical working knowledge of copyright and fair use;
Demonstrated understanding of relevant standards and practices, such as OpenURL, COUNTER, SUSHI, EDI, and KBART;
Experience with data manipulation, analysis, and assessment;
Demonstrated knowledge of library systems used to provide access to electronic resources, including library management systems, discovery platforms, proxy, and link resolvers;
Demonstrated commitment to achieving equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace and the community;
Ability to work independently and collaboratively, prioritizing work to ensure that departmental and library goals are realized;
Excellent organizational and analytical skills, proven problem solving ability, flexibility, and ability to meet deadlines;
Project management skills;
Demonstrated commitment to professional development and service;
Experience with proxy configuration; and
Experience working in a consortial environment.

Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. Librarians at the University of California, Santa Barbara are professional academic appointees who accrue vacation at the rate of two days per month and sick leave at the rate of one day per month.
